BEST PLACES TO FIND USED BABY GEAR
Finding as much used as possible was really important to me as we prepped for our baby’s arrival. While it can take a little more time to find the right things, the satisfaction when you find what you want and save money is great! Below is a list of places we purchased from and what we were able to find.
Facebook Marketplace- we managed to find a Pottery Barn Crib with the toddler converter. Value: $898 Price paid: FREE. I also bought a Newton Crib Mattress with a brand new cover. Value: $300 Price paid: $90. Using marketplace can take some patience but is so worth it when you find a great deal!
Mercari- I decided early on that I wanted to try cloth diapering. As we did research I realized how expensive it can be to get started. Once I decided on Charlie Banana I found a great bundle online. Normally one diaper new is $29.99 and the inserts are an additional $7. I purchased 12 diapers and 24 inserts for $40 total. I know this may sound weird but feces of breastfed babies is water soluble so it is quite easy to make sure they are clean for re-use. I washed them again myself when they arrived. Value: $528 Price paid: $40
I also got the following items on Mercari:
Phillips Avent Bottle Warmer- Value: $50 Price paid: $15
Isabel Pregnancy Clothing Bundle- Value: $100 Price paid: $40
Moby Classic Wrap- Value: $50 Price paid: $16
Moby Easy Wrap- Value: $60 Price paid: $22
Latched Mama Clothing Bundle- Value: $130 Price paid;$64
Boppy Cover- Value: $13 Price paid: $3.20
Medela Pump Hands Free Kit- Value: $89 Price paid: $42
Rebelstork- Rebelstork is a website that sells open box and overstock baby gear. We purchased our Graco Modes 3 Lite Platinum Travel System Value: $400 Price paid: $279 and Halo Innovations BassiNest Soothing Swivel Sleeper 3.0 (Value: $299 Price paid: $219)
Local Sales and Road Side Giveaways- Keep an eye out in your neighborhood for people giving things away. I managed to find a boppy, Fisher Price bouncer, changing mat, sit up chair for baby and an (almost) brand new Radio Flyer Trike. I also found a Lay-z-boy reclining rocker chair that was perfect for our nursery. The chair required quite a bit of cleaning but was so worth it!
Hand me downs- One of the easiest ways to get baby gear is being open to hand me downs from friends and family. Communicating early that you are open to used gear is a great way to get showered with stuff! Read more about how to request used gear on your registry here.
Overall Value: $2,917 (not including hand me downs and freebies)
